After breakfast, set out by private 4×4 for a journey away from the main road, crossing open desert terrain and stopping at panoramic points where you can appreciate the immense scale and beauty of the Sahara.
One of the cultural highlights of the day is a visit to Khamlia village, known for its Gnawa musical heritage. Day 3Merzouga ⇢ Todra Gorge ⇢ Dades Gorge
After breakfast, leave the dunes of Merzouga behind and begin travelling west across the striking landscapes of southeastern Morocco. The route takes you through small desert towns, palm-filled valleys, and rocky plains, offering a very different view of the country from the previous day’s Sahara scenery.
Continue toward Tinghir, a beautiful oasis town surrounded by palm groves, before reaching the dramatic Todra Gorge. Here, you will have time to walk beneath the towering canyon walls, where the cliffs rise sharply on either side of the narrow valley. The gorge is one of southern Morocco’s most impressive natural landmarks and provides a welcome opportunity to stretch your legs and enjoy the cooler canyon air.
After your visit and lunch along the way, continue through the changing landscapes toward the Dades Valley. The road winds through traditional villages, unusual rock formations, and fertile pockets of greenery before reaching the Dades Gorge area. Continue to the UNESCO-listed Aït Ben Haddou, one of Morocco’s most iconic fortified villages. Take time to explore its maze of earthen buildings, narrow passageways, and elevated viewpoints. From Aït Ben Haddou, begin the spectacular crossing of the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n’Tichka Pass.
