Morocco Desert Tours from Marrakech, Fes & Casablanca

Hassan — founder of Pro Morocco Tours, born and raised in Merzouga at the edge of the Sahara
Why Our Tours Are Different

Built by someone who grew up in the Sahara.

About Pro Morocco Tours

Fifteen years on the same desert roads.

Hassan — the founder — was born in Merzouga, at the edge of Erg Chebbi. He did not move here to run tours. He grew up here, in the communities most operators drive past without stopping. Every route we offer has been driven by Hassan himself. Every camp, every guesthouse, every gorge stop is chosen because he knows what it feels like at 6am in October, not because it ranked well on a booking site.

Pro Morocco Tours has been running Morocco desert tours since 2010. Every itinerary is built around the people in the vehicle, not a fixed schedule. If you have three days, we build the most rewarding trip possible. If you have ten, we use every one of them.

Which Tour Should You Choose?

Not sure which desert tour is right for you?

The right Morocco desert tour depends on how much time you have. Here is a plain guide to what each itinerary length actually gives you — and who it suits best.

3 Days

Best if short on time.

You reach the Sahara, spend one night at Erg Chebbi, and see the main landscapes — High Atlas, Ait Ben Haddou, Todra Gorge. Intense but worth it if 3 days is all you have.

4 Days

More relaxed pace.

The same key stops with fewer early starts and longer time at each place. Better for couples or anyone who wants to absorb the route rather than tick it off.

5 Days — Recommended

The real Sahara experience.

Two nights at Erg Chebbi with a full free day in the desert. The sweet spot — enough time to feel the Sahara rather than just pass through it. The most common choice for first-time visitors.

7–10 Days

Full Morocco in one trip.

Sahara plus the imperial cities, Chefchaouen, the Atlantic coast, and the gorges. The right choice if this is your one big Morocco trip and you want to come away having seen the whole country.

Why Book with Pro Morocco Tours

What makes our Morocco desert tours worth booking?

Not all Morocco desert tours are the same. Here is what separates a genuinely memorable Morocco tour from a package that simply moves you from one place to another.

Born in Merzouga. Hassan grew up in the desert communities most operators drive past. You cannot fake 15 years of local knowledge — and it changes every stop on the trip.
Every route personally tested. Hassan drives every Morocco desert tour route himself before it goes on the site. If a road, camp, or stop does not deliver, it does not appear.
Erg Chebbi camel trek on every Sahara night. A guided sunset camel trek into the dunes is included on every itinerary with a Sahara overnight — not an optional add-on.
Fully customisable. Your departure city, your dates, your pace. No fixed group departures, no minimum numbers, no stops you cannot change.
Reply within 1 hour, 7 days a week. A real person reads every message. Ask about Morocco itinerary options, Sahara tour prices, or what to pack — we reply fast.
When to Go

Best Time for a Morocco Desert Tour

Erg Chebbi and the Sahara are rewarding year-round, but some months deliver a significantly better experience than others.

Autumn

September — October

The ideal window. Comfortable daytime temperatures, cool clear nights. The Sahara light in September and October is exceptional and the camps are peaceful.

High season ⚠ Limited availability — book early
Spring

March — April

Wildflowers in the Dades Valley, warm but not extreme days, and dramatic Sahara sunrises before the summer heat builds. One of the two peak windows of the year.

High season ⚠ Limited availability — book early
Winter

December — February

Cold desert nights, occasional snow on the High Atlas, and very few other travellers. Pack warm layers. Sunrise from the dunes in January is extraordinary.

Good with layers
Summer

June — August

Erg Chebbi regularly exceeds 45°C. Possible but demanding. Plan around early starts and late afternoons. Prices are lower and the camps are quieter.

Possible, hot
Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Desert & Sahara

What is it like to sleep in the Sahara desert?

Desert camps at Erg Chebbi sit among the dunes, far enough from the village to give you a true sense of the Sahara. Nights are spent around a fire with Berber music, followed by a quiet, starlit sleep in a furnished tent or private bungalow depending on your tier. The Sahara sunrise, watched from the top of a dune the next morning, is consistently the moment guests remember most from the entire trip.

What is Erg Chebbi and how big are the dunes?

Erg Chebbi is the largest sand dune field in Morocco, located near the town of Merzouga in the south-eastern Sahara. The dunes reach up to 150 metres and stretch for roughly 22 kilometres. It is the centrepiece of every itinerary we offer, and the destination most visitors come to Morocco specifically to see.

Is a camel trek included in the desert experience?

Yes. Every itinerary that includes a Sahara night at Erg Chebbi includes a guided sunset camel trek into the dunes. The ride takes around 45 minutes to an hour each way, timed so you arrive at the camp with the last of the light.

How hot does the desert get and is it safe to visit in summer?

Erg Chebbi regularly exceeds 45°C in June, July, and August. It is possible to visit in summer but demands careful planning: early morning activities, long midday rests, and late afternoon starts. Spring (March to April) and autumn (September to October) are by far the most comfortable months. Winter nights are cold but the daytime is pleasant and the camps are quiet.

What should I pack for a Sahara trip?

A warm layer for desert nights (temperatures drop sharply after sunset, even in spring and autumn), comfortable walking shoes, a light scarf for the dune walk, sunscreen, sunglasses, and cash in Moroccan dirhams. Most desert camps do not accept card payments. Hassan ties a traditional Tuareg turban for each guest before the trek, so you do not need to bring one.

Planning Your Itinerary

How many days do I need to see the desert and at least one imperial city?

A minimum of seven days covers the Sahara, at least one imperial city (Fes or Marrakech), and the main landscapes in between. A 3-day Morocco desert tour reaches the desert but leaves little room for anything else. Ten days is the sweet spot for most first-time visitors — enough to include the High Atlas, Ait Ben Haddou, Todra Gorge, Erg Chebbi, and one or two cities without feeling rushed.

Can I customise the itinerary or add extra stops?

Yes, entirely. Every Morocco desert tour itinerary on the site is a starting point. You can add cities, extend the number of desert nights, swap the return route, or build something completely bespoke from scratch. Send us your dates, your departure city, and the experiences you are looking for, and we will put together a detailed proposal.

What is included in the tour price?

Every Morocco desert tour includes an air-conditioned vehicle, an English-speaking driver-guide, accommodation for every night of the trip, the sunset camel trek at Erg Chebbi, dinner and breakfast at the desert camp, and all fuel and road tolls. Entry fees to monuments, lunches, and personal expenses are not included.

Which departure city should I start from?

It depends on your flight and how many days you have. Marrakech is the most popular starting point for 3 to 6-day Morocco desert tours. Casablanca works best for longer trips of 7 days or more. Starting in Fes is ideal if you are doing a one-way crossing to Marrakech via Erg Chebbi. We run departures from all three — and from Tangier and Rabat as well.

How much does a Morocco desert tour cost?

A 3-day Morocco desert tour from Marrakech starts from €299 per person, including accommodation, meals at the desert camp, the camel trek, and all transport. Longer itineraries covering 7 to 10 days from Casablanca range from €749 to €1,099 per person. Contact us for a full breakdown — no deposit required.

Is a Sahara desert tour in Morocco worth it?

For most visitors, the Sahara night at Erg Chebbi is the single experience they remember most from their entire trip to Morocco. The combination of arriving by camel at sunset, sleeping in the desert, and watching the sunrise from the dunes the next morning is genuinely unlike anything else in the country.

How do I get a quote and book?

Fill in the contact form on this page or send a WhatsApp message to +212 640-853243. Tell us your travel dates, departure city, group size, and how many days you want. We reply within one hour with a suggested Morocco desert tour itinerary and a clear price. No deposit is needed to get a quote, and you are not committed until you confirm.

Morocco Travel

Is Morocco safe to visit?

Yes. Morocco welcomes over 13 million tourists a year and has strong tourism infrastructure across the country. Travelling with a local English-speaking guide removes most uncertainty and makes the experience straightforward for first-time visitors and experienced travellers alike.

Do I need a visa to visit Morocco?

No visa is required for citizens of the USA, Canada, the UK, Australia, New Zealand, and most European countries for stays up to 90 days. You will need a valid passport with at least six months remaining from your entry date.

What language is spoken and will I be understood?

Arabic and Amazigh (Berber) are the official languages. French is widely spoken in cities. English is spoken at most hotels and tourist sites. Our guides speak English, French, and Arabic fluently, so communication is never a concern throughout the trip.

What currency is used and can I pay by card?

Morocco uses the Moroccan Dirham (MAD). It is a closed currency — exchange money on arrival at the airport, a bank, or a bureau de change. ATMs are available in cities and larger towns along every route. Most desert camps, small guesthouses, and rural restaurants are cash only.

Is Morocco good for solo travellers and solo female travellers?

Yes. We regularly organise Morocco desert tours for solo travellers of all backgrounds. Having a dedicated English-speaking driver-guide means you are never navigating the medinas, the mountain roads, or the desert alone. Solo female travellers find this arrangement particularly reassuring, and it is one of the most common trip types we arrange.

Is Morocco good for families with children?

Yes. The camel trek at Erg Chebbi, the kasbahs, and the night in a desert camp under the stars are experiences children remember for years. Morocco tours work especially well for families because the pace can be adjusted freely — slower mornings, extra stops, shorter driving days — to suit young travellers without affecting anyone else.

What is Morocco known for in terms of food?

Tagine, couscous, pastilla, and harira soup are the dishes most visitors fall in love with. Moroccan hospitality is inseparable from food, and every guesthouse and restaurant on our routes is chosen by Hassan personally for quality and authenticity rather than tourist convenience.

What should I wear when visiting Morocco?

Modest dress is respectful in medinas, near mosques, and in rural areas. Cover shoulders and knees in public spaces. Loose, breathable layers work well across all seasons and keep you comfortable during the hot days and cool nights of a Sahara Morocco itinerary. A light scarf is useful throughout the country.
