Overview

Your 7 day tour from Marrakech to Casablanca makes one structural change to the 6-day version that changes the whole ending of the trip. On this tour, Night 6 is in Rabat rather than pushing straight through to Casablanca. That overnight turns Morocco’s capital from an afternoon stop into a destination. You arrive in Rabat with the afternoon available, cover the main sites without rushing, have dinner in the medina, and wake up on Day 7 ready for a relaxed drive south to Casablanca with the Hassan II Mosque as the final landmark.

The first five days follow the same south-to-north logic as every version of this crossing: Dades Valley, Erg Chebbi, the long drive to Fes, a full guided day in Fes medina, and Chefchaouen through the Rif Mountains. What the seventh day adds is proportion. Arriving in Casablanca calmly after seven days on the road, with the Corniche walk and the mosque visit already done, is the right way to end a tour of this length.

This one week Morocco tour from Marrakech to Casablanca is designed for travellers flying into Marrakech and out of Casablanca who want the full crossing with enough time at each stop to understand it rather than document it.

Itinerary — Day by Day

Day 1 Marrakech → High Atlas → Ait Ben Haddou → Ouarzazate → Dades Valley

Your 7 day tour from Marrakech to Casablanca opens with the southward crossing of the High Atlas. We leave in the morning and the road begins climbing toward the Tizi n’Tichka Pass at 2,260 metres. The summit gives wide views across both sides of the watershed before the descent into the pre-Saharan south, where the colour of the land shifts from green to terracotta and the kasbahs begin appearing on the hillsides.

We arrive at Ait Ben Haddou around midday. The UNESCO-listed ksar sits on a hillside above the Ounila River, its earthen towers and communal granary representing the most complete example of collective southern Moroccan architecture still standing. We walk it from base to summit, 90 minutes that covers every level of the settlement. The view from the granary across the Ounila is one of the best elevated sights on Day 1.

We continue through Ouarzazate, with an optional stop at the Atlas Film Studios, then head east along the Route of a Thousand Kasbahs to the Dades Valley. We arrive by early evening and walk up into the canyon before dinner while the light is still good. The gorge at this hour is quiet, the walls catching the last directional light. Overnight in the canyon.

Distance approx. 340 km · Night 1: Dades Valley · Dinner & breakfast included

Day 2 Dades Valley → Todra Gorge → Merzouga Desert

The upper Dades Gorge before breakfast. We walk the section above the hotel cluster where the canyon narrows and the rock formations specific to this gorge are visible. The timing matters: before the day-trip vehicles arrive, the canyon floor is quiet and the light angles are at their best. We return for breakfast and then continue east.

The Todra Gorge is an hour away. We walk the tightest section of the canyon, 300-metre walls closing to within 10 metres above a river that runs year-round through the rock. From Tinghir the road opens into desert terrain and the hammada extends flat and pale in every direction. The orange mass of Erg Chebbi becomes visible on the southern horizon in the early afternoon.

We arrive at the camp with time to settle before the sunset camel trek. An hour into the dunes and an hour back, the sky turning orange and then dark as the temperature drops. Dinner at the camp under an open sky with no urban light pollution within 50 kilometres. Gnawa music by firelight until the fire burns low. Private tent with en-suite bathroom overnight.

Distance approx. 200 km · Night 2: Erg Chebbi desert camp · Dinner & breakfast included

Day 3 Merzouga → Ziz Valley → Midelt → Cedar Forest → Ifrane → Fes

Up before sunrise. The dune above the camp gives a clear view of the Erg Chebbi horizon turning from dark to gold as the sun clears the edge of the sand. Breakfast at the camp, early departure. The drive north to Fes is the longest day of the tour and the morning hours are not flexible.

The Ziz Valley viewpoint comes first, where the road climbs above the palm oasis corridor and the date grove extends south as far as you can see, lined with old ksour and cliff faces. Midelt is the lunch stop, a mountain town with no particular tourist appeal and exactly the kind of practical, honest food that this drive needs.

The cedar forest above Azrou is the afternoon break, where Barbary macaques move through the trees and around stopped vehicles. Ifrane follows, its tiled rooftops and stone lion disorienting after three days in the pre-Saharan south. Then the descent into the Fes plain and arrival at your riad as the light fails. Write the riad address in Arabic before you arrive.

Distance approx. 430 km · Night 3: Fes · Breakfast included

Day 4 Fes Full Day Guided Tour

A full day in Fes el-Bali with a licensed local guide. The medina is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most complete medieval urban environments left standing anywhere. A licensed guide is not optional. The streets of Fes el-Bali are genuinely navigable only with someone who knows them, and the significant sites are easy to miss without explanation.

Your guide meets you at your riad after breakfast. The morning covers the Bou Inania Madrasa, its carved cedarwood and zellige among the finest in Morocco, and the Chouara tanneries, where leather has been processed in the same stone vats using the same methods for over a millennium. The view from the terraces surrounding the tanneries is justifiably famous. The afternoon continues through the souks, the Nejjarine square, and the Andalusian quarter across the river. The tour ends around 4:00 PM. The evening in Fes is yours.

Full day guided tour, ends approx. 4:00 PM · Night 4: Fes · Breakfast included

Day 5 Fes → Rif Mountains → Chefchaouen

After breakfast your driver picks you up for the drive west toward the Rif Mountains. The road crosses the Saiss plateau before gaining altitude into the Rif through cedar and pine forest. The air cools as we climb and the landscape has nothing in common with the desert we left two days ago.

Chefchaouen sits in a valley against the mountain face and the blue of the medina walls is visible from the road as we descend. We arrive in the early afternoon. The town’s main square, Place Uta el-Hammam, has a restored kasbah on one side and a line of cafe terraces on the other. The Spanish Mosque hike above the town takes 40 minutes each way on a rocky path and gives the best elevated view of the city against the Rif backdrop. The streets are quieter in the evening. That is when Chefchaouen shows its real character.

Distance approx. 200 km · Night 5: Chefchaouen · Breakfast included

Day 6 Chefchaouen → Rif Mountains → Rabat

After breakfast we leave Chefchaouen and descend through the Rif Mountains toward the Atlantic plain. The drive to Rabat takes around three hours. We arrive in Morocco’s capital in the early afternoon with time for a proper visit before checking in to the hotel.

Rabat is significantly less visited than Marrakech or Fes and the difference in atmosphere is immediate. The streets are wider, the pace slower, and there is no pressure from vendors or guides. We visit the Hassan Tower first, the 12th-century minaret that stands in an open plaza beside the unfinished columns of what would have been the largest mosque in the medieval world. The project was abandoned after the death of the sultan who commissioned it. The plaza is more interesting as a result. Directly opposite, the Mausoleum of Mohammed V is decorated with some of the finest contemporary Moroccan craftsmanship in the country.

We walk to the Kasbah des Oudayas at the headland where the Bou Regreg river meets the Atlantic. The ramparts give views across the estuary to the old town of Sale. The whitewashed walls and blue-painted doors of the kasbah are the same palette as Chefchaouen, but the setting is the sea. Dinner and overnight in Rabat. This is what the extra day on this tour buys.

Distance approx. 330 km · Night 6: Rabat · Breakfast included

Day 7 Rabat → Hassan II Mosque → Casablanca

Breakfast at your Rabat riad. A relaxed morning before your driver picks you up for the short coastal drive south. Rabat to Casablanca is about one hour on the motorway.

We arrive in Casablanca mid-morning and go directly to the Hassan II Mosque. The mosque sits on a promontory over the Atlantic and is the largest functioning mosque in Africa. The minaret at 210 metres is the tallest religious structure in the world. The guided tour of the interior, including the retractable roof over the main prayer hall, takes around one hour and is the right way to see the building rather than just the exterior.

After the mosque your driver takes you to your Casablanca hotel or to Mohammed V Airport at a time that works for your flight. Your 7 day Marrakech to Casablanca tour ends here, seven days after leaving the same country from the south.

Distance approx. 90 km · Drop-off: Casablanca hotel or airport

Why Choose This Tour

The single addition over the 6-day tour is the Rabat overnight. On a 6-day tour, Rabat is two to three hours of sightseeing on the way to Casablanca. On this tour it is an evening in Morocco’s capital: dinner in the medina, a morning at a riad, and a short relaxed drive south to Casablanca the next day. That is what Rabat deserves. It is the most underrated city in Morocco and the most visited by Moroccan people for exactly the reasons tourists tend to overlook it: clean streets, good restaurants, no pressure, and the Atlantic at the end of every major road.

Day 7 also changes character when the Rabat overnight is built in. Rather than a long drive from Chefchaouen through Rabat to Casablanca in a single day, Day 7 is a one-hour coastal drive followed by a mosque visit and a hotel arrival. That is the right pace for the final day of a week-long tour.

The full Fes guided day on Day 4 is unchanged from the 6-day tour. It is, on every version of this crossing, the part that matters most and is most likely to be remembered.

Who This Tour Suits

Travellers with exactly one week

Marrakech in on a Saturday, Casablanca out the following Saturday. This tour fills seven days without a wasted one.

Anyone who wants Rabat properly

Most Morocco itineraries reduce Rabat to a drive-through. This tour gives it an afternoon, an evening, and a morning. It earns that time.

First-time visitors who want the complete picture

Desert, Fes, the Blue City, Morocco’s capital, the Atlantic coast. Seven days, six completely different Moroccos.

Couples and small groups on private tour

Full flexibility throughout. The Chefchaouen hike, the Fes afternoon, the Rabat evening are all adjustable based on what you want.

Know Before You Go

Day 3 is the long drive

Merzouga to Fes is around 430 km and takes most of the day. Leave early after the sunrise dune climb. The Ziz Valley, Midelt, the cedar forest, and Ifrane break it into manageable sections, but it remains the hardest driving day on the tour.

Rabat dress code at the Mausoleum

The Mausoleum of Mohammed V requires modest dress. Cover shoulders and knees. Entry is free. Photography inside the mausoleum hall is allowed from the upper gallery but not on the main floor. The building deserves more than a quick walk-through.

Hassan II Mosque on Day 7

Guided tours of the mosque interior run throughout the day and last about one hour. Entry to the interior is by guided tour only. The exterior is free to visit. Your driver will time the visit around your flight if you are going directly to the airport.

Fes medina navigation

Write your riad address in Arabic before arrival on Day 3. GPS is unreliable inside Fes el-Bali. Your riad can meet you at a landmark if you call on arrival. This is standard practice, not a complication.

Best season

October to April gives comfortable conditions across all seven days. The Rif Mountains can be cold and wet in December and January. Summer at Erg Chebbi regularly exceeds 40 degrees, making the camel trek and Day 1 driving uncomfortable.

Chefchaouen luggage tip

The medina streets in Chefchaouen are too narrow for vehicles. Your driver parks outside the medina and you walk to your riad, usually with the riad porter meeting you at the gate. Bring wheels on your luggage rather than a hard case if possible.

Reviews

★★★★★

“Seven days and we never once felt rushed. Rabat on Night 6 was the best decision in the itinerary. We had dinner at a restaurant near the medina and walked to the Kasbah des Oudayas as the sun went down over the Atlantic. It is a completely different city from Fes or Marrakech and one that most tourists skip entirely.”

Peter and Anita V. Netherlands  ·  7-Day Private Tour
★★★★★

“The full guided day in Fes changed what I thought I knew about the city. I had been to Fes once before on my own and thought I had seen it. I had not. The guide took us to the section of the tanneries that gives the correct view, then explained what we were seeing before we saw it. That made all the difference.”

Lucia and Marco T. Spain  ·  7-Day Private Tour
★★★★★

“Day 7 from Rabat to Casablanca with the Hassan II Mosque was the right ending. One hour on the coast road, the mosque visit, the hotel arrival. Calm. After seven days on the road that calm was exactly right. The camp tent on Night 2 had a proper bathroom and the stars above the Sahara were extraordinary.”

Frequently Asked Questions

Common Questions

Anything not covered, WhatsApp us and we reply same day.

What is the difference between the 6-day and 7-day tour?
The 6-day tour visits Rabat as an afternoon stop on the way to Casablanca on Day 6. The 7-day tour overnights in Rabat on Night 6, giving you a proper afternoon and evening in Morocco’s capital, then adds a short, calm Day 7 down the coast to Casablanca with the Hassan II Mosque on the way. The 7-day tour also includes the mosque visit, which the 6-day tour does not.
Does the desert camp have private bathrooms?
Yes. All three tiers include private tents with en-suite bathrooms and hot water. You do not share facilities. Tents are air-conditioned in summer and heated in winter.
What is covered in the Fes guided tour?
A full day with a licensed local guide through Fes el-Bali. Covers the Bou Inania Madrasa, the Chouara tanneries, Nejjarine square, the spice and copper souks, and the Andalusian quarter. The guide meets you at your riad after breakfast. The tour ends around 4:00 PM. Entry fees to individual sites are paid directly on arrival.
Can the tour end at Casablanca airport instead of a hotel?
Yes. Your driver drops you directly at Mohammed V Airport on Day 7. We time the Hassan II Mosque visit around your flight. The airport is around 40 minutes from the city centre. Tell us your flight time when you book and we plan Day 7 accordingly.
How far in advance should I book?
Two weeks for spring and autumn travel. The premium Rabat and Fes properties book out earliest during peak periods. Outside peak season, one week is usually sufficient.

Want a night in Casablanca too?

The 8-Day Tour from Marrakech to Casablanca adds an overnight in Casablanca on Night 7, giving you the Corniche walk and a proper final evening in Morocco’s largest city before the airport on Day 8.

Only have 6 days?

The 6-Day Tour from Marrakech to Casablanca covers the same route with Rabat as an afternoon stop rather than an overnight, dropping you in Casablanca on Day 6. Same landmarks, one fewer night.

Itinerary — Day by Day

Day 1 Marrakech → High Atlas → Ait Ben Haddou → Ouarzazate → Dades Valley

Your driver is at your Marrakech riad or hotel at 8:00 AM. The city drops away fast on the N9 heading south-east. Within thirty minutes you are into open country and the High Atlas is rising ahead of you. The road climbs steadily toward the pass.

You stop at the Tizi n’Tichka Pass at 2,260 metres. Berber vendors sell ammonite fossils and carved stone along the roadside. On a clear morning the views stretch far across the plateau. Take your time before the road drops south toward the pre-Saharan plains.

Ait Ben Haddou comes into view around midday, its earthen towers stacked on a ridge above the Ounila River. You have at least 90 minutes here. The walk up through the successive levels of the ksar to the granary at the top gives you the best view on this entire day. Sections will look familiar from Gladiator, Game of Thrones, and a long list of other productions shot here.

After Ait Ben Haddou you continue to Ouarzazate. If you want a look at the Atlas Film Studios, this is the place. The studios have hosted productions from Lawrence of Arabia to Game of Thrones and a short visit gives a surprising sense of the scale of Morocco’s film industry. From Ouarzazate you head east along the Dades river. You arrive in the valley in the late afternoon with time for a walk along the gorge before dinner. The canyon walls close in on three sides and it is quieter here than most people expect.

Distance approx. 340 km · Driving time approx. 7 hours with stops · Night 1: Dades Valley · Dinner & breakfast included

Day 2 Dades Valley → Todra Gorge → Merzouga, Erg Chebbi

Breakfast facing the canyon walls. Walk up into the gorge before leaving while the light is still low and the hairpin bends above the guesthouse are quiet. Most people who pass through without stopping never see this part. It is worth the extra thirty minutes.

Todra Gorge is an hour east. You arrive before the day-trip groups and have the tightest section largely to yourself. The limestone walls rise 300 metres and press to within 10 metres of each other. Even in July the air inside stays cool. Walk along the river while your driver waits at the entrance.

Beyond Tinghir the land opens and flattens fast. Vegetation drops away, the soil turns pale, and the road cuts across open hammada. You see the orange wall of Erg Chebbi on the horizon long before you reach Merzouga.

You arrive at the camp in the afternoon and mount your camel for the sunset trek into the dunes. The ride takes around 45 minutes each way at a slow pace. Dinner is under open sky. After dark the Sahara above Erg Chebbi is completely clear and completely silent. Gnawa music follows around the fire. This is your second night.

Distance approx. 200 km · Driving time approx. 5.5 hours with stops · Night 2: Erg Chebbi desert camp · Dinner & breakfast included

Day 3 Merzouga → Ziz Valley → Er-Rich or Midelt → Cedar Forest → Ifrane → Fes

You wake before dawn. Climb the dune behind the camp and watch the light shift from dark grey to gold as the sun clears the horizon. The Sahara at this hour is completely still. Breakfast is at the camp when you come down.

Early departure is essential today. The drive north to Fes is the longest single day on the whole tour and the morning hours matter. Your driver heads north and the first stop is the Ziz Valley panoramic viewpoint. The valley drops away below the road in a long green corridor of date palms and old ksour stretching far in both directions. Step out of the vehicle and take it in properly.

The route climbs into the Middle Atlas. Lunch is at Er-Rich or Midelt depending on timing and what is open. Both are honest market towns in good farming country, far from the tourist circuit, and a useful stop after a long morning.

After lunch the road continues north into the cedar forest above Azrou. Barbary macaques move freely through the trees and around visitors. From there the road passes through Ifrane, the French protectorate-era town with European-style chalets and tiled rooftops that looks completely out of place until you know its history.

You arrive in Fes in the late afternoon. Your driver drops you at your riad or as close as the narrow streets allow. Have your riad address written in Arabic before you arrive. The streets inside Fes el-Bali follow no grid and navigation apps are unreliable inside the medina.

Distance approx. 430 km · Driving time approx. 8 hours with stops · Night 3: Fes · Breakfast included

Day 4 Fes Full Day Guided Tour

A full day inside Fes el-Bali with a local licensed guide. The medina of Fes is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the best-preserved medieval cities in the world. Without a guide it is genuinely difficult to navigate and most of the important sites are easy to miss.

Your guide meets you at your riad after breakfast. The morning covers the Bou Inania Madrasa, its carved cedarwood and zellige tilework some of the finest in Morocco. From there you walk through the tanner’s quarter to the Chouara tanneries, where leather has been cured in the same open vats using the same methods since the 11th century. The view from the surrounding terraces is one of the most photographed scenes in Morocco.

After lunch, the afternoon continues through the souks. The Nejjarine wood-workers’ square, the brass and copper quarter, the spice market, and the old Andalusian quarter across the river. Fes el-Bali has around 9,000 streets. Your guide will take you through the ones that most visitors never find.

The guided tour ends around 4:00 PM. The rest of the afternoon is yours to wander, return to a favourite section, or simply sit at a cafe and watch the medina move around you.

Full day guided tour · Tour ends approx. 4:00 PM · Night 4: Fes · Breakfast included

Day 5 Fes → Rif Mountains → Chefchaouen

Breakfast at your Fes riad. Your driver picks you up mid-morning for the drive west into the Rif Mountains. The road from Fes to Chefchaouen takes around three hours and the landscape changes from the flat plains of the Saiss plateau to wooded mountain slopes as you climb into the Rif.

The Rif Mountains are a different Morocco from everything you have seen in the south. The villages are smaller, the houses painted white, the slopes covered in cedar and pine. The light is different up here and the air noticeably cooler than the lowlands.

Chefchaouen comes into view as you descend into the valley. The town sits against the mountain face and the blue of the medina walls is visible even from the road above. You arrive in the early afternoon with plenty of time to explore the medina before it gets dark.

The blue streets of Chefchaouen are as photogenic as any place in Morocco and far less crowded than Marrakech or Fes. The main square, Place Uta el-Hammam, has a restored kasbah on one side and a line of cafe terraces on the other. The walk up to the Spanish Mosque at the edge of town gives you the best view of the medina and the mountains behind it.

Distance approx. 200 km · Driving time approx. 3.5 hours with stops · Night 5: Chefchaouen · Breakfast included

Day 6 Chefchaouen → Rif Mountains → Rabat → Casablanca

Breakfast in Chefchaouen. You leave mid-morning and the road descends back through the Rif Mountains toward the Atlantic coast. The drive from Chefchaouen to Rabat takes around four hours.

Rabat is your first stop. Morocco’s capital is far less visited than Marrakech or Fes and all the more pleasant for it. You spend two to three hours here covering the main sites. The Hassan Tower is a 12th-century minaret that was never completed, standing in an open plaza beside the unfinished columns of what would have been the largest mosque in the world. The Mausoleum of Mohammed V directly opposite is the resting place of Morocco’s king and his two sons, its interior decorated with some of the finest contemporary Moroccan craftsmanship you will see on this trip. The Kasbah des Oudayas sits at the edge of the Atlantic on the estuary of the Bou Regreg river, its whitewashed walls and blue-painted doors an echo of Chefchaouen’s palette by the sea.

From Rabat the coastal road runs south to Casablanca. An hour’s drive. Your driver drops you at your Casablanca accommodation in the early evening. The Marrakech to Casablanca 6 days crossing is complete.

Distance approx. 340 km · Driving time approx. 5 hours with stops · Drop-off: Casablanca, early evening

Why Choose This 6 Day Tour from Marrakech to Casablanca

The 6 day tour from Marrakech to Casablanca covers more of Morocco in a single continuous journey than almost any other itinerary of its length. The south in two days, the imperial cities in two days, the north in two days. Each section is distinct enough to feel like a different country.

The full guided day in Fes on Day 4 is what separates this tour from anything that just passes through. Fes el-Bali is genuinely difficult to navigate alone and a licensed local guide changes what you see and understand there completely. Most visitors who try Fes without one leave having seen the surface. The guided day goes considerably deeper.

Chefchaouen on Day 5 is the counterpoint to the desert. After the open hammada and the gorges of the south, the blue streets set against the Rif Mountains feel like a different planet. Having the afternoon and evening there rather than just a passing stop is what makes it land properly.

The tour connects both airports with six days of Morocco between them. No backtracking, no repeated roads.

First-time visitors who want the full picture

Desert, imperial city, blue mountain town, Atlantic capital. Six days, four completely different Moroccos.

Travellers who want to understand Fes

The full guided day on Day 4 is the difference between seeing Fes and understanding it. Most tours give it a few hours. This one gives it a day.

Couples and small groups

The private option gives full flexibility on pace and stops throughout. The shared tour is good value for solo travellers and pairs who enjoy meeting other people on the road.

Know Before You Go

Best time to travel

October to April is the most comfortable window for the 6 day tour from Marrakech to Casablanca. The Sahara regularly exceeds 40 degrees in July and August, making the camel trek hard work. The Rif Mountains can be cold and wet in January and February. Spring and autumn give the best conditions across all six days.

Day 3 is the long drive

Merzouga to Fes covers around 430 kilometres and takes roughly eight hours with stops. An early departure from the desert camp is essential. Your driver breaks the journey at the Ziz Valley, Er-Rich or Midelt for lunch, the cedar forest, and Ifrane.

Desert camp bathrooms

All three accommodation tiers include private tents with en-suite bathrooms and hot water. You do not share facilities. In summer the tents are air-conditioned, in winter they are heated. The camp has electricity in the common areas.

Arriving in Fes

Have your riad address written in Arabic before you arrive on Day 3. The streets inside Fes el-Bali follow no grid and navigation apps are not reliable inside the medina. Your driver will get you as close as the streets allow.

Chefchaouen medina on foot

The medina of Chefchaouen is best explored on foot. Most of the blue streets are too narrow for vehicles. Leave bulky luggage at the riad and carry a small bag. The Spanish Mosque hike above the town takes about 40 minutes each way and gives the best panoramic view of the blue city against the mountains.

What to pack

Layers for both desert heat and mountain cold. The Rif Mountains and Fes can be significantly cooler than the south, especially in spring and autumn evenings. Comfortable walking shoes for Ait Ben Haddou, Todra Gorge, Fes medina, and Chefchaouen. Modest clothing throughout. Cash in dirhams for tips, entry fees, and optional activities.

Reviews

★★★★★

“Six days covered more of Morocco than I had seen in three previous trips combined. The full day in Fes with the guide was worth the whole tour on its own. I had been to Fes before and thought I knew it. I did not.”

★★★★★

“We flew into Marrakech and out of Casablanca. This tour connected both airports perfectly and gave us the Sahara, Fes, Chefchaouen, and Rabat on the way. Chefchaouen after two days of desert was a complete contrast. Hassan’s team handled every detail.”

Giulia and Marco F. Italy  ·  6-Day Private Tour
★★★★★

“The camp tent had a private bathroom and air conditioning. Rabat on the last day was a surprise — it was far less crowded than Fes or Marrakech and the Mausoleum of Mohammed V was one of the most impressive things we saw in Morocco.”

Common Questions

Everything you need before booking. For anything not covered here, WhatsApp us directly and we will reply the same day.

What does the 6 day tour from Marrakech to Casablanca include?
Pick-up from your Marrakech accommodation, a private air-conditioned vehicle and English-speaking driver-guide for all six days, five nights accommodation, dinner and breakfast at the Dades Valley hotel and the Erg Chebbi desert camp, breakfast at the Fes riad on both mornings and the Chefchaouen riad, a sunset camel trek into the dunes, a full day licensed guide in Fes medina, a Rabat stopover covering Hassan Tower, Kasbah des Oudayas, and the Mausoleum of Mohammed V, and drop-off at your Casablanca accommodation on Day 6. All fuel and road tolls are covered.
Does the desert camp have private en-suite bathrooms?
Yes. All three accommodation tiers include private tents with en-suite bathrooms and hot water. You do not share facilities. In summer the tents are air-conditioned and in winter they are heated.
What is covered in the Fes guided tour on Day 4?
A full day with a licensed local guide through Fes el-Bali. The tour covers the Bou Inania Madrasa, the Chouara tanneries, the Nejjarine square, the spice and copper souks, and the Andalusian quarter. The guide meets you at your riad after breakfast and the tour runs until around 4:00 PM. Entry fees to individual sites are not included and are paid directly on arrival.
Are dinners included in Fes and Chefchaouen?
No. Dinner is only included at the two overnight stops in the south: the Dades Valley hotel and the Erg Chebbi desert camp. In Fes and Chefchaouen, breakfast is included but dinner is on your own account. Both cities have good restaurants within easy walking distance of the riads and your driver or guide will recommend options.
What should I pack?
Layers for both desert heat and mountain cold. The Rif Mountains and Fes evenings can be significantly cooler than the south. Comfortable walking shoes for Ait Ben Haddou, Todra Gorge, the Fes medina, and Chefchaouen. Modest clothing for kasbahs, religious sites, and market towns. A small overnight bag for the desert camp camel trek. Cash in dirhams for tips, entry fees, and optional activities.
Is the camel trek suitable for everyone?
The sunset trek at Erg Chebbi takes around 45 minutes each way at a walking pace. It is comfortable for most adults and suitable for children aged around six and above. If you prefer not to ride a camel a 4×4 transfer to the camp can be arranged. Let us know when booking.
How far in advance should I book?
For travel between March and May and September and October we recommend at least two weeks in advance. The Fes and Chefchaouen riads in the mid-range and premium tiers book out early during these periods. Outside peak season a few days notice is usually enough.

Want more time in the desert?

The 5-Day Tour from Marrakech to Fes includes a full desert exploration day at Erg Chebbi with a nomad family visit, Khamlia, the M’ifis salt mines, and the seasonal lake before the drive north to Fes. The right choice if Casablanca is not your endpoint.

Prefer to end in Fes?

The 4-Day Tour from Marrakech to Fes covers the same Erg Chebbi dunes and drops you in Fes on Day 4, ready for Chefchaouen and beyond on your own schedule.
